Restaurant Review Chicago Illinois

[ARGENTINEAN, SOUTH AMERICAN-type cuisine]
ñ
Now in it's fifth year, nestled into its cozy corner between the intersection of Elston, Wellington and Rockwell, ñ has gone from an under-the-radar family-owned restaurant bar, to a double-threat nightlife venue. Don't let fancy dish names like the Argentinean Berenjena (hot breaded eggplant layered with spinach and served with oven baked tomato cream sauce) sell the kitchen short; each plate has a full hearty serving and is not some little culinary artwork. Although the kitchen is open later than 10 p.m., nights finds ñ filled wall-to-wall as a DJ spins classical salsa and the bar serves a boatload of South American cocktails and anything but domestic beer. Don't expect to ask for a $2 PBR or catch a football game here--aside from not having TVs, it's even closed on Sundays and Mondays. ñ is a decently priced top shelf restaurant bar that scores extra points by not having a dress code and not having a cover charge for its late night scene. Great for: $8 Mojitos that are made from scratch and its spicy four empanadas plate that have helped keep its kitchen open until as late as 2 a.m. on a Saturday night. Average entrée: $4-$16 Key: A, V, L. 773-866-9898, 2977 N. Elston Ave.
