Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA)

Museum

By Laura Granfortuna

MALBA is a museum with an agenda.  It tries to educate people about Latin American art, get them interested and involved.  It attempts to create links between artistic communities both nationally and internationally to help stimulate new projects and ideas, and tries in addition to open communication between artists and the public. MALBA's unique philosophy makes it an excellent place to get the full story behind Latin American art - to learn how it influences and is influenced by history, society and culture.

MALBA's exhibitions are dedicated to modern art, displaying works from the early 20th century to the present. Its approximately 200-piece collection includes the work of many highly regarded Latin American artists such as Frida Kahlo, Tarsila do Amaral, Fernando Botero and Jorge de la Vega.

MALBA offers special lectures and activities pertaining to fine arts, literature, design and film as part of their mission to educate and communicate. It also has its own theatre, where it screens films Thursday - Sunday after 2p.m.
