La Dorita Enfrente

first parilla ever

I picked the Dorita Enfrente as the parilla where I would experience my first rite of passage in tasting traditional Argentine cuisine. Located at 1905 Humboldt St. in Palermo, the parilla has gained such popularity that they had to build a second version of it right across the street from the original restaurant.

Once inside, I was greeted with the warmth and hospitality that is typical of Argentine culture. They sat me down and wasted no time in getting me a menu. After a brief glance, I ended up picking the typical Argentine favorites: bife de lomo, morcilla (blood sausage), malbec (Argentine red wine) and papas fritas (fries).

It seemed like only a minute from the time I ordered until the time that my food arrived. I remembered seeing this humble looking chunk of meat before me and wondering if Argentine beef was all what it was reputed to me. So I carefully and lovingly placed it in my mouth.

I am proud to say that the taste of that little chunk of meat lived up to everything that Argentine beef was reputed to be. Meaty yet with a sweet light touch to it so that it's a treat for your taste buds but doesn't sit heavy in your stomach.

Along with the tasteful, creative decor and unbelievably reasonable pricing (I paid a total of $15 including tip), my visit to the Dorita Enfrente left a great impression on my mind in the same way that the food left a lasting memory on my taste buds.
