WHY BIKE?
If you have the time and energy, riding a bicycle is perhaps the best way to enjoy the Argentinean sceneries from Patagonia through the Andes going by salt mines and even getting to Chile. Biking tour operators offer packages that vary depending on the region you are planning to visit. You can take a one-day tour to see Tucumán, an eight-day tour to the snowcap of Aconquija, or a 17-day adventure through the Patagonia.
BIKING ARGENTINA: HINTS AND TIPS
If you decide to leave the tour guides behind and wander by yourself on the roads of Argentina, keep in mind there are few rest stops offering food and drink between towns, and distances are enormous. It’s best to carry some food and water with you at all times, and plan out your day’s travel so as to get a good camping spot at sundown or find a hotel in the nearest town. Most hotels will allow you to keep your bicycle in your room, however if this is not possible, talk to a clerk about a safe place to store the bike for the night. Taking roads less traveled by tourists will give you the opportunity to meet Argentineans who are not used to dealing with tourists and can be quite hospitable; just remember to bring your manners wit you.
