Banks In Argentina

Banks in Argentina are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you are planning on going to a bank in Argentina, bring your best Spanish skills because most bank tellers do not speak English. In general, it is also good to always bring a color copy of your passport, as it is a required form of identification for most transactions.

There are plenty of ATMs (cajeros automáticos) around Argentina, especially in the major cities, but it is recommended that you use ATM machines located within a bank, behind a locked door, rather than directly on the street. Foreigners are usually charged around AR$15 ($5 US) to make a transaction. Argentina has 2 national networks, accepting these cards:

– Banelco: Mastercard, Cirrus, Visa, Plus, American Express, Diners Club

– Link: Mastercard, Cirrus, Visa, Plus, American Express

US dollars and Euros can be easily exchanged at exchange houses, or cambios. Travelers checks come with high commissions and are not easily accepted. They are not recommended for use while traveling in Argentina.
