Argentina’s varied and incredible landscapes make the country extremely popular with campers. There are multiple campsites throughout the country (except in Buenos Aires) that cater for families, those looking to relax and those seeking a more active, party atmosphere. The party orientated sites are often found close to Argentina’s beaches. Most of Argentina’s various national parks have camp sites although if you are considering camping in areas such as Patagonia you should be extremely well equipped as conditions can be fierce. Due to the risk of forest fires, most national parks do not permit fires.
Most official campsites have good services and provide the majority of necessary equipment although the likes of insect repellent and sleeping bags are rarely provided. It is always worth enquiring about what you need before arriving at a campsite as all differ in their provisions. Most sites have clean facilities, toilets, showers with hot water and some even have their own groceries and restaurants. Most sites also have good security measures.
Although camping is allowed next to many major highways you should not camp on private land without permission. You should always ask permission to camp on someone’s land and only do so when assured of the area’s security. During the summer, especially at weekends, Argentine campsites get extremely busy so prior booking is advisable. Barbeques and camping often go hand-in-hand in Argentina and although these can run well into the early morning hours they are a fun way to spend a warm spring or summer night.
