Eco tourism in Argentina

Eco-Tour

By Lorena Fernández

An increasingly developing industry of great potential under the geographic qualities of Argentina, eco tourism is a controlled and directed activity aimed at producing minimal impact on natural ecosystems while educating visitors on the importance of conserving the natural and cultural treasures of the land. Some of the most recommended places equipped for eco tourism include the Esteros del Iberá, the Patagonian coast, the Misionera Jungle and La Pampa. The biggest protected area in Argentina and one of the most important fresh water reserves of the continent, Esteros del Iberá holds a total of 13,000 km2 of land in which unique species like the small river worlf, the Pampas deer and the aguará guazú (largest canine in South America) inhabit. Over 350 species of birds can be spotted in this reserve, making it a great place for bird watching.
The Patagonia is known for its contrast. Of particular beauty and eco tourist interest can be the Patagonian coast, where thousands of marine elephants come to mate and have their babies along the 15km-long coast. The Estancia Rincón Chico is a cozy choice to observe the phenomenon.
In the Misionera Jungle, the Yacutinga Lodge offers visitors a ecological experience, as the lodge owns a natural private reserve not far from Iguazú Falls. The hotel is uniquely designed to fit in the environment and cause very low impact on nature.
Finally, La Pampa is particularly popular for the quality hikes it offers. Woods, lakes and rich flora and fauna surround the area where old estancias will take you back to nostalgic encounters with nature. People here are eager to give environmental talks and show videos and pictures to inspire an experience here.
