Business and government office hours may differ according to region and season. Consult individual cities. In general, banks are open 9 a.m.-1 p.m., government offices 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Businesses have a morning turn and an afternoon one. Post offices are open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

 

When dealing with officialdom, remember to leave the “vos” you learned in language school at the front gate. Address officials with “usted,” and be patient. Backpackers should be conscientious of dressing nicely, whether arriving at offices or borders. Argentine society still is quite prejudiced towards mochileros.
