As of July of 2008, 40,482 million people are living in Argentina. Ninety seven percent of the population is ethnically white and of European descent – evident in all aspects of Argentine culture, from food to literature and cinema.
The 19th century saw a large influx of immigrants from Spain, Italy and France. Newcomers flocked primarily to the sprawling city of Buenos Aires and the surrounding province, which houses approximately 13 million residents. Indigenous Indians and Mestizos only account for about 3% of the Argentine population.
