Studying Spanish in Argentina

Language

By Thomas Bacon

Despite having what is considered one of the more difficult accents in South America to understand, Argentina offers various opportunities to learn Spanish. Knowing at least the basics of Spanish will certainly benefit your time in Argentina. As well as being an essential means of communication, having at least a basic grasp of the language proves a great way to meet local people and learn more about the country.

Spanish schools throughout Argentina general cater for a various different levels, from the absolute beginner to the more advanced or business speaker. Depending on the school, classes also vary in intensity and duration: from short term, intensive classes to weekly lessons spread out over a longer period. Class size depends on your needs and the school capacity and should be enquired about prior to subscription. Most schools provide the option of both individual and group classes.

It is always worth researching different Spanish schools especially as admission may require advance booking. Despite this, many places offer immediate start and it may be more fruitful to decide on the various school options once inside Argentina. Accommodation arrangements are extremely school specific and many have homestay options. These are often excellent ways to immerse yourself in the Spanish language and gain an insight into Argentine living.

Although located elsewhere throughout the country, the majority of Spanish schools are unsurprisingly found in the major cities. Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza and Bariloche all have an extensive variation of schools. As well as language classes, many schools organize numerous cultural excursions and activities such as dance and cooking lessons to integrate students and make studying a more interactive, enjoyable process.
