Traveling with Kids in Argentina

Argentina is one of the best countries in South America to travel with children. The culture generally embraces little ones and there are no real problems to travel as a family.

Most restaurants are very accommodating of children – though high chairs are in short supply. It is typical to see families dining together late into the evening, then going for a summer stroll to work off extra calories after the meal. Only incredibly uppity restaurants with snooty waiters offer dirty looks at young children, and will at times be inclined to turn away couples with babies and toddlers.

Some hotels do not allow children but this is a rarity in Argentina. Still, it is best to ask when reserving a room in advance. A lot of accommodation offers connecting suites or apartments to attract the family crowd, while nicer hotels sometimes offer babysitting services to guests, as well.

Do not expect to find an array of amusement parks to cater to the short attention spans of children. If you want Disney World, go to Florida. Otherwise, Argentina’s beautiful natural destinations will have to suffice. Waterfall boat rides at Iguazú, animals in the national parks, whales and penguins near the sea or stunning glaciers in the South serve as the main draws for adults and children. Argentina also boasts decent skiing for older children and beaches for everyone at Mar del Plata.
