The first indication that you’re approaching Luján is the sight of the impressive spires of its neo-Gothic Basilica against an otherwise empty horizon. Stretching out in its shadow, the open expanse of Plaza Belgrano and wide arched Avenue—the entrance to the town—ensure the spotlight remains on the Basilica, star of Luján.
But a one-hit wonder this town isn’t.
From the beautiful architecture of the Museum complex which runs alongside the Plaza, to family fun by the river, Luján packs a surprisingly big punch for a town of less than 100,000 inhabitants. Long a popular destination among South Americans, the town is currently undergoing a massive renovation project, evidence of its dedication to further expanding its tourist profile. Friendly locals are proud to share their town’s story with visitors, but once they begin are hard to stop. Like its population, this tiny town is strangely captivating.
