The highlight of the year for the Argentine religious set is no doubt the 65 kilometer pilgrimage from Barrio Liniers in Buenos Aires to the Luján Basilica. Held in December, this spectacle takes up to 11 hours to complete and attracts thousands of pilgrims. La Virgen is also at the centre of other town festivities - Fiesta de La Virgen de Luján – on May 8, is one such example. Folkloric celebrations are common throughout the year.
