Just around the corner from colorful Caminito, the Fundación Proa–named after the building’s triangular shape resembling the prow of a boat pointing out into the port of the Riachuelo– figures among the city’s top art galleries. Opened in 1996, the two-story Proa has since consistently attracted a mix of highly-regarded traveling exhibits as well as work by cutting edge local artists. Beyond the artwork on display, the old building is beautifully restored and has an attractive roof-top. Openings, when the roof-top is packed with the BA art crowd, offer free wine and beer and a good way to get a backstage look at the local art scene.
