Although sadly run-down - a chandelier fell from the ceiling earlier this year - the Ideal is the still the city's most beautiful old tango joint. Classes for beginners are available in the afternoon while nights are reserved for more experienced tango-dancers. But everyone is welcome, even at night, and a small fee gets you in the door where you can get a table away from the dance floor to observe the most beloved of local rituals. Live shows are inconsistent, but almost always of high quality, featuring old standby stars and some of the city's most exciting young talent. In the end, it's worth it just to stop by, have a coffee, observe the gorgeous interior and let your mind run, imagining the golden years of tango.
