The University of Buenos Aires (known around town as La UBA), offers excellent value group courses for foreigners starting out from “Hola, ¿cómo estás?” to those who drop the pluperfect subjunctive in daily conversation.
New students should first check the university’s website for the course calendar and next date of registration (inscripción). Classes are capped at 14 students and fill up fast, so show up early to take the level placement test, and come with enough cash in hand to secure a spot immediately thereafter.
Commitment varies from intensive classes running 15 hours/week for four weeks to four hours/week over 17 weeks. Alumni who have already taken a class are eligible for discounts and first dibs during pre-inscripción.
