Museum
Step into the luxury of early 20th century Buenos Aires high society at this palatial residence converted into a museum. In a way, it is more like a time capsule than a museum. The property was donated to the Argentine government in 1937, and has since been preserved to its original state to present the art collection and home of the Errázuriz Alvear family. These two families both arrived in South America from Spain in the 18th century and played important roles in the social and political development of Argentina. Paintings, furniture, sculpture, vases, tapestries and many more artifacts of the period act as a window into a lifestyle and era that is no longer, but remains fixed in time in this architecturally striking complex. An hour or two exploring the rooms and gardens of this ornate mansion would not be wasted by any visitor curious about the former inhabitants and history of Buenos Aires. The building and gardens themselves are worth the visit. It is a wonderful example of the French style buildings found throughout the city. The courtyard café in the front plaza of the museum is a beautiful setting to relax and replenish.
Getting There
The museum is located on a main street and is serviced by many bus lines. The 102 passes in front of the building.
