Hiking

By Suzanne Russo

Even in the great Buenos Aires it´s sometimes nice to ¨get away from it all.¨ A visit to the Ecological Reserve is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city without really leaving. Stroll through unfettered wildlife and observe nature at its freest within the city: turtles, guinea pig-like cuis (cavies), and various species of birds, from the burrowing owl to the parrot. The reserve is closed on Mondays but the surrounding grounds are still worth a visit. Amble along the swampy river and stop at one of the numerous carritos (food carts) for a bite to eat, or join the locals in sunning in the nearby Parque Virginia Balten or Parque Micaela Bastidas. Kiddies will love the extensive play area in Virgina Balten, too.

Getting There
Take the Subte to Alem, or any bus on Libertador / Alem to the intersection with Córdorba. Walk east towards the river, past the docks.

Travel Tips: The Reserve is closed on Mondays, but it's worth a walk around the surrounding areas.
