BA's legendary café culture is best exemplified by the Tortoni. In business since 1858 and laden with history, everyone from well-known literati to the most recognizable names in tango have graced the café's elegant interior. Although packs of tourists can sometimes detract from the magic, Tortoni is still a must see while in the city. Time your visit in between the busloads, and be sure to check the schedules for quality tango and jazz shows at the salon in the back of the café.
