Museo de Deuda Externa

Activity Info., Culture, Museum

By Lorena Fernández

Every Argentinean born today immediately assumes an external debt of $4,000 in name of the nation. In an effort to educate the people on the choices their government has made with regards to asking for money to international sources, the faculty of Science and Economics of the University of Buenos Aires along with the office of Culture of Government of the city of Buenos Aires opened the Museum of External Debt inside the faculty building. The museum counts with didactic objects to explain metaphorically and graphically the economic events since the 1800s. A toy stove, for example, represents the recipes of the Fondo Monetario Internacional (International Monetary Fund), which is given the credit for encouraging the high debt of the 90s. The museum has been in operation since 2005.
