Teatro Colón

The majestic 1908 structure on Plaza Lavalle known as Teatro Colón is among the five largest theaters in the world. Though the stage of this 3000 people theater has seen performances by great artists such as Arturo Toscanini, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, since 2006 its doors have remained closed, as the main room is undergoing renovations and it’s not expected to open until 2010. The national historical landmark is not just a venue for dance and opera, but also a school of these and other arts such as lyric song and musical conduction for opera.
