Don’t be fooled by the name. Located on one of the quieter streets in the heart of Almagro, the Palace Hotel is more “grandpa’s apartment” than “palace,” but with so few options in the neighborhood, this will do. The surprisingly sleek and simple rooms make up for a drab and uninspiring lobby. In fact, I found them relatively impressive, given the apathetic atmosphere and attention to décor downstairs. If your priority is to explore Almagro rather than stay in another neighborhood, look no further than this hotel (no point in shopping around – there aren’t many other options). However, for those seeking a touch of Argentine culture, this hotel completely lacks it in every corner. That is, except for the surprisingly decent-looking hotel restaurant next to the lobby, from where the wafting scent of juicy meat seals the deal for those who planned to walk out the door.
