When To Go

There are great things happening in Buenos Aires all year round, but if you're adverse to extremes in temperature then skip July/August, which can be quite chilly and definitely stay away in January, when temperatures soar and humidity makes the city too muggy for locals, who flee to the seaside towns in Uruguay.

For sports fans, football season begins in August, running until June (with a break in the hottest summer months). Polo games start in spring, with the most important games in the world played in December, and the best time to see the Pumas on the rugby pitch is from May to November.

If you want to skip the crowds, avoid mid-to-late July, when Argentine schools are closed for winter holidays.
