A Sweeter Taste of BA
The city is Buenos Aires. The location is Las Violetas. In its 124th year of business, this popular confiteria situated on Ridadavia Avenida is thriving. It is a place that oozes class and where service is impeccable. But with main meals for as little as US$4, Las Violetas will suit those even on a shoe string budget.
Foodies will love this place at any time of day. For breakfast, do it the porteno way. A classic cafe con leche served with 3 media lunas (croissants) or perhaps a dulce de leche pastry. For lunch or dinner, try the “Eduardo VII” tenderloin steak served with demiglace sauce, mushrooms, ham pâté, palm parts, and noissette potatoes.
The icing on the cake however, is undoubtedly the Maria Cala tea service; a traditional platter of double-decker ham and cheese sandwiches, cakes and pastries, served with tea, coffee or hot chocolate. This fantastic treat is a mere $10 and will take at least four of you to get through it.
For those of you wanting to dine in a luscious location with high ceilings, stained glass windows and white-jacketed waiters, take the subte to the Castros Barros station and head to the gastronomical gem that is Las Violetas.

Las violetas is a magnificent coffee place, where you can also drink beer, gin and eat. The decoration (from the end of the 19th century) is wonderful, the stain glass is superb. The food is great, if you ask for drinks you would be served also a small snack. The gin is abundant. Also has great cakes and tea-time food. The service is also very nice and friendly. Definitely a place to go.
