In a spectacular downtown building, the Borges routinely pulls in high level traveling exhibits. Recent highlights have included Warhol, Picasso and Dali exhibits and work by new up-and-comers. The festival Periferico–literally, periphery–is the year’s largest reunion of small, independent artists, galleries and studios. The vast area of the cultural center is filled with literally hundreds of booths of showcased work and is the most comprehensive look at contemporary Argentine art available. Not strictly an art gallery, the Borges also hosts dance and theater and has a movie theater where art films are shown. If you don’t get your fill of art at the Borges, cross over the commercial part of Galerias Pacifico and look up. The murals on the ceiling are some of Argentina’s most famous, completed by a group of legendary painters including Antonio Berni.
