The original mission of the City Museum, when it opened in the late 60s, was to bring together “the history of the city of Buenos Aires, its inhabitants, their customs, architecture and the experiences of locals and those who passed through Buenos Aires.” This is quite a vast subject for such a small place and the result is a collection of quirky memorabilia ranging from dolls to doorknobs. Interestingly, it was the museum that created, in 1970, the famous San Telmo fair on Sundays, now more popular than ever. On the ground floor is the beautiful old Farmacia de la Estrella which has been there since 1900 and retains a quaint air of the old-style chemists. Alsina 412/Defensa 219, open daily 11am - 7pm
