Palacio Del Congreso - Historical Building Buenos Aires - Argentina

Argentina’s national House of Congress might look familiar to visitors from the United States–the massive gray stone building was modeled on the Capitol in Washington D.C. The Palacio del Congreso opened in 1906 after eight years of work, though it wasn’t completed until 1946 (later, when a building took too long to build, locals took to saying, "It took as long as the Congress"). The Congress' most famous features are its giant green dome and myriad statues carved into the stonework. Take advantage of the free tours in English at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, and check out the underground museum with lots of info on Evita. The plaza outside is often full of demonstrators protesting against Congress' decisions (or lack of them).
