Opening a gourmet fusion restaurant in an economically struggling residential neighborhood is not a business decision that everyone would take. But celebrity chef Francis Mallman did and it has all worked out just fine. He built it and they are coming. The food is creative renditions of Argentine staples combined with the finest ingredients from Patagonia. The food is excellent but the prices are outrageous, especially for the area!

The price is amazingly high and the quality of the products amazingly bad. The quality of the meal is banal and has nothing to do with the described Pampa steaks. We tried as a starter the goat cheese salad and I was surprised that it is possible in this country to serve such a cheap mix of old greens with a supermarket goat cheese. The wine list is also banal and completely overpriced. Last but not least was the service the most arrogant and unskilled experience in the last ten years of eating in restaurants. Francis Mallman made this place to rip off tourists!
I visited Patagonia Sur on Nov 14, 2008 with my wife and another couple. I have to say that the meal was quite a disappointment, at least following the appetizers. Here is a quick summary: - We were the only 4 people in the restaurant. 2 people left as we arrived. - Sweetbreads for 2 were good. Pea soup for 2 were also quite good. - Veal Milanese had a great presentation but was bland, tasting largely of the breadcrumbs. - 2 people had the 7.5 hours cooked lamb which was good but dry. We asked for more gravy reduction which helped. - The Gnocchi for 1 in itself was good, except the butter sauce it sat in was extremely salty. So much so you could not enjoy if you mixed the ingredients. - The chocolate souffle for 1 was overcooked and dry. - The fruit soups were good. Please accept this feedback as constructive. For the high cost of the meal ($150 per head) we expected better, our concerns are more to do with the quality than the cost.
