School, museum, gallery, library, publisher and performance venue, the Academy is dedicated to tango in all its forms. The impetus for its creation in 1990 was the idea that the tango has been one of the deepest and most authentic forms of expression for the Argentine people, both in their home country and the international community. The Academy also sought to capture the diversity of the tango’s expression, which is plainly reflected in everything it has to offer. As a tourist you probably won’t be signing up for any of the classes - dance or academic. But you can visit the tango museum and art gallery, see a show, and maybe walk away with a copy of El Chamuyo, a short monthly newspaper that is one of the Academy’s many publications.
The Academy operates another museum - the Museo Mundial del Tango (World Tango Museum).
