Hotel Bauen

For an interesting bit of tourism with a social conscience, try the Hotel Bauen. As was the case with numerous hotels, factories and businesses, the Bauen was closed after the 2001 crisis and has joined the ranks of a growing number of places where the workers have entered, taken over, and got business going again without the presence of the former bosses. The task wasn't easy, and the Bauen dropped a couple of stars along the way, but the hotel has become a mecca for those interested in Argentina's post-crisis grass-roots political movements. Most of the hotel is functioning again, and the worker-run cooperative is negotiating with the government to get complete control and open the entire hotel. Conferences on social issues (often times the hotel itself) are held, as are plays and the occasional concert. And the location is prime: the Bauen's main tower looks down on the intersection of avenues Callao and Corrientes.

Avenida Callao 360, y Corrientes

Traveler Reviews of Hotel Bauen

Our worst experience in Bs As

We had a terrible nightmare at the Bauden hotel. I got ill there so we had to come back to our country sooner, and they didn't return our money to us. What's more, they charged us for some calls that we couldn't have made. The people working there are terribly unfriendly. If you are planning a trip to Buenos Aires, please don't choose this place.

Convenient, practical, friendly hotel

Kind, accommodating staff, bar on main floor, great location. Decor not particularly updated.
