Like the area's hotels, most of the dining options along the Rio Plata on the eastern side of town have very little to do with traditional Buenos Aires. Sure you can enjoy dinner and a tango show at many of the restuarants that dot the docks, but it's all a bit cruise ship, akin to visiting the Norway pavilion at the Walt Disney World Resort's Epcot theme park in lieu of taking an actual trip to Scandinavia. For the most part, the restaurants are fairly anonymous and brightly lit with selections that are on par with anything you'll find in a Palermo parilla and about twice as expensive. If you're heading to a more upscale eatery, be sure to call in advance for reservations. Since these places generally attract early bird tourists rather than night-owl porteños, many of them fill up well before the witching hour, even in the middle of the week.
