Floralis Genérica - Monument Buenos Aires - Argentina

The name is Latin for "Generic Flower," but this 23-meter high, 18-ton metallic sculpture that sprouts from a pond in Recoleta's United Nations Park is anything but generic. Less iconic among BA structures than the Obelisco, the Floralis Generica (created in 2002 by Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano) is the type of landmark that you stumble across by accident, which makes it an unexpected pleasure. As if its sheer magnitude weren't enough to turn heads and stop traffic, the six petals open every morning and close before night falls. The setting sun's reflection on the water creates stunning visual effects on the structure.
