About a 10-minute walk from the Plaza San MartÃn, this elaborately decorated theater is Buenos Aires landmark. Since it was built in 1921, it has had its challenges, from a break-in in 1926 to a fire in 1961. The now-remodeled building hasn’t lost its antique charm. Inside, the tiled lobby gives way to a series of dark, wooden doors. The theater itself is striking and old-fashioned, with red-velvet chairs and gold detailing along the balconies. It seats 860 people for theater, comedy, and musical performances year-round but is much smaller than the more famous Teatro Colón.
