San Telmo is one of the oldest barrios in Buenos Aires, so it’s been feeding people for a long time. The specialty of this unassuming neighborhood is places that don’t look like much from the outside, but cook up mouthwatering plates of food inside. Take a stroll in the area where Defensa meets Chile for a nice little selection of local pizza and grill houses, and keep going along Defensa for vegetarian, French, tapas and more great steak in an old corner restaurants full of charm and character.
Nightlife
San Telmo has a lively little selection of bars and clubs, although you won’t find a lot of slick, upscale establishments. Many of the places tend to be a little more broken in, with a lot of personality and bands of dedicated regulars, foreign and local alike. You can also find some of the cheapest drinks in Buenos Aires among San Telmo’s bars, which alone makes them worth a visit. So if you’re in the neighborhood, you would be hard-pressed to find a better way to pass the night than by downing a cold draft and hitting the dance floor at the watering hole of your choice.
