A true family affair! Run by the four children of the its late namesake, this 18-year-old San Telmo parilla caters more to families and groups of friends than couples dining a deux. Manolo's quintessentially porteño setting is old-school and low-budget, right down to the red napkins draped across tables arranged dining-hall style. The plates are basic (beef, chicken, . empanadas, salmon and more beef), gigantic and inexpensive, and the walls are covered with sports knick knacks, celebrity photos and even the birth certificate of tango legend Carlos Gardel. Manolo won't win any awards for originality or design, but if you come on the weekends, you and yours will be serenaded by a cantor as you eat. Open Tuesdays to Sundays, noon to 1 a.m.

We loved the feel of this restaurant. Even at 11 p.m. at night, you'll see full families dining on inexpensive meals such as milanesa. The prices compare to Desnival and is a good alternative to the packed Sunday lines there. Great papas fritas and inexpensive lomo and bife de chorizo.
