Four kilometers from the city of Colón, a landmark foreign to Argentinean traditions adds to the landscape as a symbol of perseverance from the first generations of European immigrants. Built by the Holland-born Juan Forclaz in 1888, the 15meter-high windmill was meant to grind wheat and corn, as it’s done in Holland, however it never functioned properly since there is not enough wind in this region. In 1985 the Ministry of Education and Justice declared this a national historical monument. Nowadays it is visited by journalists, poets, students and a wide range of other interested people who come to ask the owners and neighbors about its history.
