Capilla del Monte, located 16 kilometers north of La Cumbre, boasts the serene beauty of Cerro Uritorco at 1,980 meters, the highest peak of the Sierra Chica. It was known more as a resort town for the country's upper class near the end of the 19th century, though now it attracts a variety of backpackers and travelers-- but be warned; Capilla del Monte is also rumored to be frequented by UFOs so keep a watchful eye toward the sky to avoid any potential unwanted probings or abductions.
Capilla del Monte is not stocked with sights but is more often used as a base for mountain hikes, paragliding or fishing. Be sure to view the variety of flora and fauna in the surrounding hills. The mountains offer a chance to see wild foxes, red-nape woodpeckers and long-tailed hummingbirds in an original habitat. Also take a moment to observe the carob and hackberry trees.
