The Jesuit Estancias which lie around the city of Córdoba where built in the 1600's to support the Manzana Jesuítica in the city center. As Jesuit culture spread through religion and education, supplemental monetary support was needed to finance building projects and religiouse diffusion. The five major Estancias, Caroya, Jesus Maria, Santa Catalina, La Candelaria and Alta Gracia were created as working farms and ranches to generate money for Jesuit projects. All of the sights including the Manzana in Córdoba itself have been recognized as world heritage sights.
Any travel agency in town will offer tours of the sights which can involve a variety of commitment from a few hours to a few days. The sights are beautiful and an important part of both Córdoba's, Argentina's and now officially, world heritage.
