With a population of 35,000 people, the Bodega La Caroyense is located in Colonia Caroya, less than 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Jesús Maria. The bodega was a cooperative founded in 1930 and soon became an important wine making industry for the region. In addition to the various wines, the diverse products of the bodega include grappa and other non-alcoholic juices. Located within Colonia Caroya, the bodega underwent considerable restoration and technological modernization in 2001.
Tours are available in English, Spanish and Italian. Passing through an extensive complex of tunnels alongside huge barrels, visits give you the opportunity to sample and purchase many of the wines and also learn about the bodega’s history and how the various wines are produced. The bodega is certainly a must-do for wine enthusiasts.
