San Luis

Altitude: 640 meters/2,099 feet, Populaiton: 112,778, Telephone Code:  02652

San Luis is known as the Puerta del Cuyo (Door to the Cuyo) referring to the region 280 kilometers (173 mi) west that contains the city of Mendoza. The town is actually located at the southernmost part of the Sierra de San Luis. San Luis was founded in 1594 in honor of France’s King Louis. The highlight of the town is nearby Parque Nacional Sierra de las Quijadas. The cathedral and the Museo de Historia Natural are worth a visit, as is the Centro Artesanal San Martín de Porres.

San Luis has plenty of places to rest your head. Vista Suites and Spa is the best place to spend a night in San Luis, assuming you don't mind shelling out the cash. Cheaper accommodations include Dos Venados, Hotel Plaza Pringles, San Luis and Huarpes. There are good dining options in San Luis, as well. Las Pircas and Donatto are two of the better steakhouses. La Porteña and La Ragazza serve pizza.

Other places nearby San Luis: Villa Carlos Paz, Santa Catalina, La Cumbre, Alta Gracia, Cerro Colorado, La Falda, Santa Rosa De Calamuchita, Villa General Belgrano, Jesús Maria and Córdoba.
