Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, located 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) south of Villa General Belgrano, was founded by a group of Dominicans that built a ranch and chapel. The town remained low-key for a long time thereafter until it gained some popularity as a resort town when wealthy Argentines started vacationing here.
Today, the tourism industry is booming in Santa Rosa de Calamuchita. Tourists descend upon this previously unassuming town during the high season to explore the mountains, go horseback riding, kayaking, diving or four-wheeling. Also during the high season expect some noise as discos are in full swing. The main street of Libertad is where incoming buses drop off and pick up passengers.
Due to the high volume of visitors during the high season, Santa Rosa de Calamuchita offers plenty of accommodation options. There are several camping grounds, as well as cabins and up-scale hotels. There are also several parrillas where you can enjoy the nation’s famous beef and a few typical pizza joints.
