About 90 miles outside of Carlos Paz in Tanti sits a 20 ton reflecting telescope whose mirror measures nearly 5 feet in diameter. For many years this was largest telescope in South America, and it is still one of the largest. The observatory itself, fondly nicknamed "El Gato Gris" (the grey cat) is also well known for the body of research it has produced. If this is a topic of interest for you, it may well be worth the journey to go and see this giant.
