The Pampas is a particularly great vacation spot for nature lovers, as there are many beautiful national parks in the area. One of the most spectacular is Parque Provincial Ernesto Tonquist, where you can peer down into the dizzying Garganta del Diablo (The Devil's Throat) gorge, in addition to trekking up some of the highest peaks in the area. If you head over to the coast, you will definitely want to stop by the Reserva Mar Chiquita. A world-famous biosphere reserve, this beautiful lake contains several different types of ecosystems, including a lagoon and coastal dunes, which are home to over two hundred different species of birds and fish.
If you prefer exploring local nightlife to the great outdoors, you might want to pay a visit to the small city of Tandil. Located in a valley surrounded by the rolling Tandilia sierras, it is a relaxed, picturesque town that nonetheless has a lively selection of bars and clubs. It is also one of the best places around to sample the region's fine cheese, beef, honey, and other farm-fresh delicacies.
