Port Area - Other Activity Mar Del Plata - Argentina

Still a very important- if not the most important- port in Argentina, the area functions much better as a hub of fishing and international commerce than a tourist destination. However, the stench and industrial cranes that take up most of the horizon do not seem to be keeping people away. The area makes for a curious stroll after lunch at one of the seafood spots that are part of the Centro Commercial del Puerto. Just beyond the monument to Fisherman is a row of souvenir shops and fishmongers offering up the catch of the day. Boat trips on a fishing vessel are a good deal for those looking to try out their sea legs. The Argentine Navy shows off its wares at the Museo de la Fuerza de Submarinos de la Armada Argentina. A little further towards the coast is the Reserva Faunistica de Lobos Marinos: a colony of sea lions that decided to make camp in between a fleet of fishing boats and the road. Directly in front of the Port, the beach looks a bit like a set from Mad Max Goes to the Beach but the beach is cleaner toward Punta Magotes.
