The arid Alta-Montaña region of Mendoza encompasses five towns, which pop up as sparsely as the vegetation. Uspallata is the largest tourist center; however, Potrerillos, Penitentes, Puente del Inca and Las Cuevas each have their unique attractions, including a large lake, ski resort, mineral-formed bridge, and Cristo Redentor monument, respectively. The soaring peaks of the Andes, including Cerro Aconcagua, highlight the scenery between each destination. Most visitors hop a daylong excursion from Mendoza to get the fast-forward tour of the zone, but Expresso Uspallata does have daily buses to each town for those inclined to take a longer look. The atmosphere in each town is surprisingly different from the hustle of Mendoza, so each one is a great escape when the city becomes overwhelming
