Built around the 6,962 m (22,841 ft) Cerro Aconcagua, this provincial park welcomes thousands of hikers and climbers each year. As one of the seven summits, Aconcagua is a highly sought after target for climbers looking to top the seven continents but its technically easy routes have witnessed summits by both a 10-year old boy and 87-year old man. Those uninterested in scaling to great heights can enjoy a series of multi-day hikes. Excellent views of the peak are available from the road and a short walk to Laguna Los Horcones takes day-trippers far enough away from the cargo-truck laden highway to feel surrounded by nature. The official climbing season runs from December to March, but access is available later in the year to trained mountaineers. www.aconcagua.mendoza.gov.ar
