Maipú Services

Maipú is a mostly rural department, but its small town center does offer the basic services required by visitors staying for more than a single day. The Plaza Departamental 12 de Febrero marks the center of town and most services are located on the surrounding streets. Both the municipal and tourism offices are located in its northeast corner. A number of small restaurants are located along the south side of the plaza. Try El Rastro (Sarmiento 161) for a quick and cheap lomito sandwich or pizzas. Tio Vicente (Sarmiento & Pablo Pescara) is the favorite local ice cream shop.

Banks can be found on San Martin and Padre Vazquez Streets. Keep in mind that tourists are often limited in withdrawal amounts per transaction; however, this total varies depending on the bank. Try the Macro bank (Padre Vazquez & San Martin) to withdraw larger amounts.

Internet cafés and locutorios (telephone services) can also be found along San Martin, directly across from the plaza. The central post office (San Martin 335) is helpful to send letters or parcels, but receiving packages can be slow. Visitors should try their luck with the central post office in Mendoza, where the customs officials tend to work faster.

The public Hospital Diego Paroissien (Godoy Cruz 461) is clean but it gets crowded. English doctors are rare, so visitors should consider traveling back to a private clinic in Mendoza unless an emergency dictates otherwise. The well-stocked Farmacia Gil (San Martin 126) can help with any over-the-counter medicines.

Shopping is also cheaper in Maipú than the city. Some stores, like Via Libre (Padre Vazquez 308), offer discounted prices to its mostly-local clientele. Shopping options are limited to a handful of stores, but its worth a look if saving a few dollars is a higher priority than finding vast selections and convenient locations.

Finally, rental bikes are common throughout the entire department. Mendo Bike (Ozamis Sur 65) is the best option in the city, while either Mr Hugo (Urquiza 2288) or Maipú Bikes (Urquiza & Carril Gomez) offer bikes along the wine route in Coquimbito.
