La Payunia Reserve - Other Activity Malargüe - Argentina

Formed in 1988, La Reserva Provincial Payunia encompasses the seemingly endless volcanic formations that surround Malargüe. Payun Matru is the tallest peak within the reserve; however, volcanic cones litter the entire landscape. Excursions to Payunia, possible between October and May, normally include visits to Volcan Santa Maria, Los Morados, and the black fields. Wildlife sightings, including guanacos and rheas are common but not guaranteed. The trips are long and do little to avoid long tracks of rough road, but the landscapes make up for any discomfort.
