Hiking And Mountain Climbing Around Mendoza - Hiking Mendoza - Argentina

Cerro Aconcagua (6962 m / 22841 ft), located within Parque Provincial Aconcagua, is the world’s highest non-Himalayan peak and dominates the Mendoza hiking and climbing scene for this reason. All hikers, whether hiking into base camp or heading for the summit, are required to purchase a park pass at the office in the city (San Martín 1143). Despite the high altitude, Aconcagua is a manageable climb for anyone with a good fitness level and who wants to challenge his or her abilities with the help of a well-trained guide.

The Cordon del Plata, located near Uspallata, is another excellent hiking area. Peaks in this area range remain high, between 4,000-5,000 meters (13,100-16,400 ft), but refugio-to-refugio hiking is possible along the valley floor.

A guide should accompany anyone attempting a summit climb in the Cordon del Plata or Aconcagua. Information on hiking and guides is available from the friendly Club Andinista Mendoza (Fray Luis Beltrán 357).
