Area Fundacional - Museum Mendoza - Argentina

Plaza Pedro del Castillo marks the exact location where the city was founded on March 2, 1561. The original town hall was located here but was destroyed, with much of the city, during the March 2, 1861, earthquake.

Today, visitors will find the Museo del Área Fundacional built upon the town hall’s original foundation. An underground water chamber, built to bring water to the city in 1810, and the ruins of Iglesia San Francisco, built by Jesuits between 1716 and 1731, are also found within the plaza.
